Lake Bohinj

The name Bohinj is used for the large area in Western Slovenia, best known for its beautiful Alpine lake. The lake lies at an altitude of 525 metres above the sea level and it is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia. The water is clear and appropriate for swimming and rowing, the boats can be borrowed nearby.

Wonderful nature around the lake is also suitable for biking and jogging. In the wintertime the Ski Center Vogel, which lies above the lake, is a must! It is known as one of the most beautiful ski centres in the country. In all seasons you can climb to the tops of the nearest peaks.

But Bohinj is not all about natural beauty and sporting activities. It also has a rich cultural heritage, especially in the form of houses, pastures, hayracks and local costumes. And once you are there, don’t forget to try local cheese which is usually homemade.
